Sports tourism and environmental protection society "Akademik" - Ruse was established in 1961. It was registered as a non-profit association in 1991 under the F.d. 3718 according to the inventory of ROS. Applicants for the initial registration of the company and its first collective members are hiking club "A.Konstantinov", water tourism club, cycling club "Meridian", ski-tourism club "Sever' 66", sports orientation club, Alpine Club, Cave Club and Echo Tourist Club.

In 2000, the nature protection club "Friends of the Park" became part of the company. In 2002, it was re-registered under the LNLE, as an association with socially beneficial activity.

In its history, the company has carried out a variety of educational, training, sports-competitive and environmental protection activities. Hundreds of tourist organizers, instructors, guides, judges and other sports and pedagogical personnel have been trained.

For its 25th anniversary, the company was awarded the "Cyril and Methodius" order - first degree.

An important place in the activity in recent years has been assigned to nature protection work. Since 1980, the environmental actions "Clean Lakes" and "Clean Mountains" have been held annually along routes in Pirin, Rila and Old Mountain. In addition to the tons of waste collected and removed, large-scale educational and educational work was carried out. The company carries out these activities in partnership and with the assistance of the directorates of the Central Balkan, Pirin and Rila National Parks and  Lom Nature Park of Ruse.

In 1997-1998 members of the company participate in the implementation of the project "Building a network of student and student associations for the protection of nature", financed by the Open Society Club - Ruse and the Ruse Quarry.

In 1999 and 2000, the society worked on 4 projects in the field of training its members and institutional strengthening, two of which were financed by the Association of People's Universities in Germany.

STPA "Akademik" - Ruse has an office, a meeting room and storage rooms in building 14 of the University of Ruse. The office is equipped with a telephone, a computer, a radio telephone.

Between two sessions of the General Assembly, as the highest management body, the company is managed by a Management Board consisting of seven people. The meetings of the Board are also attended by representatives of the clubs and sections of the company.

Two employees work in the company's office: an executive secretary and a chief accountant, and in the two huts - Echo and Kozya Stena, in Old Mountain three huts are appointed.
